Coast and Countryside

Once you have ambled through beautiful gardens its time to explore Torbay's dramatic coastline or alternatively, just sit back, relax and breathe in the fresh sea air.

Walking in this area can be for the serious and not so serious - from short strolls along the water's edge to long hikes along the South West Coastal Path. Berry Head signals the start of one of the most dramatic stretches of Britain's longest and most beautiful footpath.

With over 16 square miles of sheltered waters, the English Riviera offers the perfect arena to watch or partake in any number of watersports. Two world-class marinas at Torquay

and Brixham and excellent on-shore facilities including harbourside restaurants and marine stores.

See the English Riviera from a different perspective by stepping on board one of the many ferries or cruise boats. You can visit the three towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham by ferry with regular services running from each of the harbours. Many of the local boat companies are available for private hire or offer group discounts.

A suggested itinerary:
A trip to Torbay would not be complete without a visit to the idyllic village of Cockington. Throughout the year, groups can embark on one of the many tours and walks organised by the Coast and Countryside Trust. The 450 acres of country parkland provides an "oasis of calm" for those who desire a break from the busy resort lifestyle.

Don't miss the Cockington Craft Studios, which enable you to view a range of different crafts people at their work and buy beautiful hand-crafted gifts direct from the maker. Remain in Cockington for lunch before travelling on to Berry Head at Brixham.

This stunning headland- once the site of two Napoleonic forts - is Torbay's most important wildlife site and one of England's 200 National Nature Reserves. Here several species of rare and threatened flora and fauna flourish including the endangered Greater Horseshoe Bat. You'll also find a visitor centre and café located here.

Please note: Access into Cockington village is restricted. Set down point is located at on Herbert Road - 5 minutes walk from the village centre.
