Excursion Ideas

 

Exeter

A small and friendly city with a stunning 12th Century cathedral and Elizabethan streets that will immediately impress.

Make the most of your visit: Visit Powderham Castle, famous for its deer park, stately home and outdoor events. Take the scenic route back to Torbay along the coast and stop at the seaside towns of Dawlish and Teignmouth.

Shopping: High street shops located on Queen Street and Fore Street. Visit Cathedral Street and Ghandi Street for something a little different.

 

Dartmouth & Totnes

Dartmouth is one of the busiest leisure sailing points on the south coast. A relaxing trip on up the River Dart will take you to the charming medieval town of Totnes.

Make the most of your visit: Visit Totnes on a Tuesday between May and September for the town's medieval market. Take time to visit the castle and Elizabethan museum as well as explore every nook and cranny of this unique old town.

Shopping: Totnes has a wealth of unusual shops and excellent local markets on a Friday and Saturday. The Dartington Cider Press Centre is also well worth a visit.

 

Dartmoor and Tavistock

A coach drive taking in some of the stunning scenery of Dartmoor is a must! This National Park offers rugged beauty with plenty of tors to explore and walks for the more active.

Make the most of your visit: Make a stop at the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor and the beautiful Buckfast Abbey, home of the Roman Catholic Community of Benedictine Monks, on your return journey.

Shopping: Visit Tavistock, a pretty town with an interesting assortment of shops.

 

Plymouth

Plymouth has a fascinating rich naval heritage. Enjoy a walk around the Hoe or visit Plymouth Dome.

Make the most of your visit: See fantastic marine wildlife underwater at the National Marine Aquarium. On your return journey, visit the 18th Century mansion, Saltram House as seen in the film 'Sense and Sensibility'.

Shopping: The Barbican Shopping Centre is worth a visit and on the way back to Torbay, Endsleigh Garden Centre has a wide selection of plants, gifts, clothing and books.

 

Cornwall and the Eden Project

The world famous Eden Project is well within a day trip distance from the Bay and will be on the wish list for many groups as will the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

Make the most of your visit: If you make an early start to the day, you can combine your visit with a short stop at the pretty port of Charlestown, built in 1790 for exporting local copper and china clay.
