A Wonderful Heritage Site
Goodrington is an important part of the UNESCO accredited English Riviera Global Geopark. As you explore the rockpools and headlands of Goodrington, keep in mind that it has a history that dates back more than 280 million years. That’s before the first dinosaurs walked the earth!
Goodrington & Youngs Park
Goodrington’s lovely park is a natural habitat for swans, geese and wild birds and is perfect for family picnics with children of all ages plus the family dog. Enjoy the Boating Lake (where model boat enthusiasts are often launching their treasures), have a go at crazy golf and enjoy some delightful walks in the parkland and up into the terraced Rock Walk Gardens, which are lit up at dusk.
Walks, Secluded Coves and Steam Trains
Goodrington has some of Devon’s most beautiful walks with jaw-dropping views. You can follow the South West Coast Path towards the pretty fishing town of Brixham to the west or towards idyllic Paignton Harbour and beyond towards the east. Delightful refreshments and fascinating browsing await you in either destination. There are two secluded coves that you can walk to just over half a kilometre away; these are Saltern Cove and Oyster Cove. You can take a ride on the steam train, which runs right next to the beach and will take you on a breathtaking journey of discovery along the coastline and over ancient viaducts to Kingswear where you can stop off and explore the riverside town of Dartmouth before returning. From Goodrington you can also walk to Paignton Zoo Environmental Park with its extensive grounds and over 2,000 fascinating creatures to meet.
Eating Out
In addition to the popular Inn on the Quay and lots of beachfront ice cream and snack kiosks, there is also Cantina a delightful new family-run café/restaurant, which specialises in local fish and oven baked pizzas and is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. This is England’s Seafood Coast and renowned for its fresh fish caught daily at nearby Brixham’s famous fish market.
Wonderful Places to Stay
Beautiful Goodrington is a very popular place to stay on Devon’s English Riviera with a choice of hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts and self-catering apartments and Devon cottages.
