The English Riviera is protected by the hills of Dartmoor creating little wind and a mild microclimate. The naturally shaped horseshoe bay protects the coastline and means the water is usually calm, flat and very clear. Because of these two factors, Tor Bay has shallow waters, with hardly any currents making it one of the safest places in the UK to experience the wonders of wild swimming and a great spot for beginners too.
With crystal clear waters, sea caves, islands and unusual rock formations, the English Riviera’s coastline is also one of the most interesting places to swim. The 22 miles of coastline includes a wide variety of unique things to see, from the spectacular limestone arch; London Bridge, to the red sandstone cliffs at Goodrington.
Please be aware, that if you are new to wild swimming, we highly recommend you do your research before you enter the water. Cold water shock is serious and can be dangerous to new swimmers. A useful guide for cold water swimming can be found here.
