Accessible Beaches

Torquay Beaches:

Torre Abbey Sands - Sand
There is a ramp down to the beach from road level, and a short ramp from the pavement down to the promenade. Steps with a handrail lead to the sea.

Corbyn Head - Sand and shingle
Access is easy from the road. There is a slipway down to the beach and a short promenade.

Beacon Cove - Rocky, Shingle, Cliffs
Easy access to promenade above the beach via a ramp. There are steps down to the beach from the small promenade.

Meadfoot Beach - Rocky with sandy shingle and cliffs
Easy access from the road via a slope on to the promenade, steps to the beach. There is also a slipway to the beach 100 yards away.

Maidencombe Beach - Sandy, rocky with cliffs
Difficult and restricted access via a narrow path and set of steep steps which lead down to the café and beach area.

Oddicombe Beach - Sandy with cliffs
Access is via a steep road or via the easier Cliff Railway, where a  slope leads to a level promenade above the beach. Access via the steps on to the beach.

Babbacombe Beach - Sand/Shingle and rocky with cliffs
Disabled access is difficult. The road down is very steep, there is a car park at the bottom with a promenade that is level. There are steps down to the beach.

Anstey’s Cove - shingle/rock and cliffs with restricted access via a steep path.
Difficult with a steep slope and steps, although there is a hand rail.

Paignton Beaches:

Preston Sands - Sandy with rock pools
The area is quite flat and has excellent access for disabled people and wheelchairs.

Paignton Sands - Sandy
Easy level access to the promenades and the harbour.  Two ramps provide easier access from the promenade onto the beach for the disabled.

Goodrington Sands - Sandy with rock pools
Access is easy, level areas throughout. There is a slipway to the beach. 
Disabled toilet facilities.  THHN are pleased to announce that we now own a beach wheelchair and with support from Reach Outdoors it is available for use by anyone needing accessibility to the beach at Goodrington Sands. If you require the use of the beach wheelchair please speak to the Reach Outdoors staff at their beach cabin on Goodrington Sands, it is free of charge but donations to the charity are welcome.  Reach Outdoors has kindly facilitated THHN to store the beach wheelchair at their facility.  Reach Outdoors are a seasonal and weather dependant outdoor activity centre and the wheelchair is not always readily available to use. To avoid disappointment please contact Reach Outdoors to check the beach wheelchair is available.
We would also like to thank Rotary Club of Paignton and Rotary Club Of Tormohun whose fundraising and kind donations enabled us to purchase the beach wheelchair.

Hollicombe Beach - Sandy with rocks and cliffs

Broadsands Beach - Sandy with rock pools
The car park leads straight on to the long level promenade, access to the beach however is not easy, via steps with handrails.

Elberry Cove - Rocky with shingle
Not easy with a long uneven path steps and shingle beach.

Brixham Beaches:

Breakwater Beach - Shingle and cliffs
Easy - Access is from the main road to Berry Head, and also by an easy level walk around the harbour side from the town centre. There are disabled ramps to the promenade and beach.

Shoalstone Beach - Shingle and rocky with large areas of level hardstanding surrounding Shoalstone swimming pool.
There is a disabled ramp to the promenade, but steps down from the car park to the pool and onto the beach.

Churston Cove - Shingle with rocks and cliffs
Difficult - Restricted access via very steep path which is uneven in places

Fishcombe Cove - Shingle with rocks and cliffs
Difficult - Restricted access via very steep path from the car park or via the steps from Battery Gardens.

St Mary’s Bay - Sandy with some shingle and rocks and cliffs
Difficult - Restricted access via a footpath and steep steps.
