The English Riviera is well placed to offer accessible holidays for visitors that have specific needs. Our award-winning customer service and in-resort facilities, plus fully trained Visitor Information Staff, mean that holidays on the English Riviera can be enjoyed by everyone.
Each area of the English Riviera has its own character. Torquay is famous for its palm-lined promenade and cosmopolitan harbourside. Although built on seven hills, the waterfront provides over one mile of level ground with an abundance of cafés, shops, restaurants and a picturesque seaside promenade. The main high street is pedestrianised (with the exception of local buses) although it is on a steady incline. The vast majority of the attractions in Torquay are fully accessible.
The district of Babbacombe on the edge of Torquay has some of the most spectacular views on the South Devon coast from its cliff top promenade, Babbacombe Downs. The promenade is relatively level all the way along so you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
Paignton is one of the few coastal resorts in Devon where almost all of the resort is set on level ground, with the town centre, beaches, shops, cafés and restaurants all within easy walking distance of one another. The main bus station is also right in the centre of the town and provides great links to Torquay, Brixham and surrounding areas.
Brixham is a picturesque fishing town and is probably the least commercialised. Brixham is hilly in places and has some narrow lanes and roads. The waterfront/harbour area is bustling and vibrant with shops, cafés and restaurants lining the streets. The waterfront, marina, fish quay and breakwater are all level and easily accessible.
For holidaymakers requiring mobility or disability facilities, there are many specially adapted accommodation options that are both highly accessible and offer an excellent standard of service. Dedicated to welcoming and accommodating those with disabilities, there are hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs that are fitted with facilities such as ramps, wet rooms, lifts and hearing loops. Many are also conveniently located within easy reach of the shops and amenities of the English Riviera. We recommend that you contact the individual businesses to make sure they are aware of and can cater for your personal needs.
You'll find that most of our attractions are fully accessible or offer options to help you when you visit, so there will be few barriers to you making the most of your holiday on the English Riviera. If you have any concerns then contact the individual businesses who will be able to discuss specific requirements.
