Known as Devon’s Beautiful Bay there is simply no better way to travel around the English Riviera, a UNESCO designated Global Geopark than to take a ferry from Torquay to Brixham. The English Riviera Ferry service operates between the end of March until the end of October and all of the ferry company’s welcome dogs. The journey time from Torquay to Brixham is 30 minutes. The ferry ride across the Bay to Brixham is a stress-free way to view the English Riviera coastline from the sea taking you past some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Devon. Please note that all Ferry Trips are weather dependent. All of the Ferry Operators have ticket kiosks around Torquay, Paignton and Brixham Harbour making it easy to buy tickets to travel on the ferries.
Operated by the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company and celebrating almost 70 years of service, the popular Western Lady Ferry Service operates from North Quay, Torquay Harbour, running regular passenger ferries between Torquay and Brixham. The Western Lady also offers family fishing trips, wildlife cruises and evening cruises during the season.
For over 60 years the Lane family and their crew have operated pleasure and fishing boats in Torbay and on the River Dart. Paignton Pleasure Cruises and Ferries aim to give all a memorable experience on the water with a wealth of knowledge about the bay, its coves, landmarks, history and wildlife. We are glad to pass on this interesting information about Torbay to all their passengers. Paignton Pleasure Cruises operate various pick up points on Torquay Harbour and run a regular Torquay to Paignton and Brixham ferry service plus cruises to Dartmouth, evening cruises, wildlife cruises, special events and fishing trips – including both mackerel and wreck fishing.
Launched in 2017 WeFerry is a family owned Ferry Operator offering a choice of colourful boats from Torquay, Paignton and Brixham to Teignmouth with the opportunity to return on Brunel’s historic, scenic railway that runs between Torbay and Teignmouth using Great Western Railway’s excellent and regular service.
Situated on the southern shore of Torbay is the historic fishing port of Brixham. It featured on the popular Sky TV series “Fish Town”, which was very popular. It is home to a large fleet of fishing boats, who collectively landed a whopping £33million worth of fish in 2016! Brixham has a proud reputation for being one of the top earning fishing ports in the UK. Arriving by ferry you’ll see the deep-sea trawlers, day haulers, netters, crabbers and angling boats as we approach the terminal. Brixham harbour is a great spot for crabbing, and the inner harbour walls are lined with families in the summer months; and buckets of crabs! Visit the independent shops, traditional pubs, cocktail bars and the Golden Hind replica.
Filling the landscape on the Northern side of Torbay is Torquay, it stocks a variety of shops, bars, restaurants and clubs, and entertains hundreds of thousands of visitors annually from all over the world. Torquay has some of Devon’s best attractions including the spectacular underground caves at Kents Cavern, 800 year old Torre Abbey with its Agatha Christie-inspired Potent Plants Garden, Babbacombe Model Village, Bygones plus Open Top Sightseeing Buses, boat trips and much more.
Located smack-bang in the middle of Tor Bay, Paignton is probably one of the most popular spots to visit. It is well known for the largest sandy beach in the local area complete with the historic Paignton Pier, which separates the northern and southern parts of the beach. Situated behind Paignton Sands is “The Green”; a large grassy area where Paignton’s main events are held, such as the English Riviera Air Show, the fair and the circus. It is also home the Geo Play Park, Crazy Golf and Cinema. Along the main seafront road, you’ll find large pubs and restaurants, with large outside seating areas.
