Our beautiful, Victorian “Melba House” is situated in the heart of the English Riviera in the historical town of Torquay. Here, you can experience the bygone era of old elegance and true decadence, dating back to the days when the world’s royals holidayed in the picturesque coastal town.
For lovers of fine fiction, Torquay is the birthplace of Agatha Christie and many of her books are based on her experiences of living in this writers’ paradise. Torquay has always been a popular spot for literary talents, with the likes of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle reported to have penned some of their literary works Melba House has a tranquil atmosphere, and is the ideal place to relax and unwind, whether you are on holiday or on business in Torquay. Historical Torre Abbey Museum & Gardens is a three minute walk away, The Riviera International Conference Centre four or five minutes, with the sea and beach also five minutes walk. The harbour is another five or six minutes stroll alongside the bars and restaurants, leading into the town centre. Torquay Golf Club is just over two miles away.
Wake up after a comfortable night’s sleep to a bright and sunny day, smelling the delicious aroma of freshly grilled bacon wafting from the kitchen. Our sumptuous breakfast will set you up for the day ahead, whether you plan to walk through the gardens of the Torre Abbey, a stone’s throw from our front door, or linger on our town’s famous beachfront promenade and marina. Or perhaps you want to catch the ferry across the Bay to historical Brixham, enjoy a fabulous meal at one of many restaurants close by, or meander back to the house enjoying an ice cream as you breathe in the sea air.
Evenings can be spent enjoying one of many theatres shows in Torquay or the neighbouring towns on the bay, with fantastic London productions on offer as well as excellent local fare. End your evening with another great gastro experience at one of the fabulous local restaurants .
Discover the bay’s many hidden coves and beaches or if you prefer, you could explore the bay’s beautiful and quant villages and historical sights, all within close proximity of Melba House
An elegant Victorian House in a tree-lined avenue with its own car park, situated right in the heart of the UK’s premier holiday destination - The English Riviera. Melba House offers a warm welcome and friendly hospitality.
Accommodation consists of five double rooms. Three rooms have king-size beds and two rooms with double beds. We have one single room with one single bed. All rooms are equipped with complimentary toiletries, tea tray with teas, coffees and biscuits and hairdryers. All guest rooms are en-suite with towels provided.
Our full English breakfast will set you up for the day - this includes eggs, bacon and sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans (or choose a lighter version). Accompanied by a selection of teas and freshly ground coffee, toast with jam and marmalade, fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt.
