About
The Newburgh Guest House is a friendly, exceptionally clean, home from home, family run Guest house in Torquay. You are guaranteed a warm welcome together with an excellent freshly cooked breakfast, using very good quality ingredients.
Built in 1861, the Newburgh is ideally situated in the heart of the beautiful English Riviera and in a quiet Victorian terrace in the Belgravia conservation area of Torquay. We will do our utmost to ensure that your stay with us is a pleasurable one, and we are sure that you will want to return. Why not come and stay with us, hopefully you will see why so many of our guests have returned!!
Our guest rooms are light and spacious and furnished to a very high standard. Our ground floor level double room has plenty of space and can be easily accessed without any stairs. All of our rooms have en-suite bathrooms, Freeview TV, Free Wi-Fi internet access, a fridge, complimentary toiletries and tea, coffee, bottled water and biscuits for our guests to enjoy.
We offer delicious hot and continental breakfast and can cater for vegetarian diets. There are many eating places close by for lunch snacks and evening meals with Abbey Sands complex housing fine-dining bistros, coffee shops and national restaurant chains. The area is also known as England’s Seafood Coast, home to the UK’s finest seafood and world-famous Brixham Fish Market, where over £40 million worth of fish is landed and sold at auction each year.
The Newburgh is close to the districts of Torre and St Marychurch for independent shops, supermarkets and cafes. There is an 18-hole golf course nearby at Torquay Golf Club as well as adventure golf, pitch and putt, bowling greens and tennis courts near to Torre Abbey Meadows. For night time entertainment Torquay harbour hosts popular wine and cocktail bars and lively nightclubs. There are 5 English Riviera theatres showcasing a range of local amateur productions, live music performances and West end touring shows.
Torquay is the birthplace of Agatha Christie, the world’s most famous female crime writer and there are many places with connections to her life and work. Torquay Museum is home to the country’s only dedicated Agatha Christie gallery (1.2 miles) and the ‘Agatha Christie Mile’ is a must for fans. The one-mile self-guided walking trail celebrates the area’s connection to the ‘Queen of Crime’ and leads you to 12 places of interest and seven plaques to find along the way.
The English Riviera is home to some of the best visitor attractions in the South West including Paignton Zoo (4.5 miles); The Real Crime Museum and The Escape Room which are all located on Torquay Harbourside (1 mile). Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves, a gateway site to the English Rivera’s UNESCO Global Geopark (2.1 miles); Babbacombe Cliff Railway (1.9 miles), Babbacombe Model Village (1.8 miles) and Bygones Museum (1.7 miles).
There are also 20 stunning beaches to discover, with 10 having received top industry awards. Torre Abbey Sands (1.2 miles), Oddicombe Beach (2.3 miles), Meadfoot Beach (1.2 miles) and Maidencombe Beach (3.7 miles) in Torquay are within easy reach.
The area has designated UNESCO Global Geopark status for its outstanding landscape which is of unique geological interest. It is a place where you can touch a very special part of the Earth’s story and be amazed by the extraordinary landscapes, mountains, coastlines, places and people.
At the Newburgh we have free parking facilities for those arriving by car or motorbike. You can travel across the whole of the English Riviera very easily, with excellent roads, rail and bus services. Leave the car behind and take a short bus ride on the frequent No 12 or 22 services which run between Torquay and the neighbouring towns of Paignton (3 miles) and Brixham (8.2 miles).

Road Directions
From the end of the M5 motorway onto the A380 and follow the signs to Torquay. Follow directions to the seafront. Pass open space of grass on your left. At traffic lights keep in left lane. Turn left onto Belgave road. Continue along Belgrave road and, turn right into Scarborough Road. We are the second property on your left, recently painted pale pink. Parking is unrestricted on Scarborough Road. Private car park at the rear of the guesthouse.
