Winter escape in Devon
Why not escape the city or your normal pace of life and visit Devon in Winter? In contrast to the fun, hustle and bustle of the summer months, a winter break in South Devon lets you slow down the pace a little, grab some fresh coastal sea air, and relax. Is this much better than wrapping up and going for a walk along a quite beach as the waves come crashing onto the shores knowing that you are never too far from a cosy pub and roaring fire?
Although much quieter, Torquay, Brixham and Babbacombe don’t shut up shop completely when the summer crowds head home, but are all year destinations that are full of life, excitement and fabulous facilities.
We’ve got 22-miles of coast path for you to explore and lots of fine country pubs and restaurants along the way when you’ve worked up an appetite or need refreshment. Watch the waves crashing while staying cosy behind the floor to ceiling glass doors at Three Degrees West located right beside Oddicombe Beach. Take a walk along the spectacular cliffs at Berry Head nature reserve then cosy up with a hot chocolate and homemade cake at the Guardhouse Café in the Napoleonic-era fort. Or get comfortable at the award-winning Cary Arms in Babbacombe with a real ale in your hand and delicious local produce on your plate.
There’s other entertainment to discover too. The family can enjoy the thrill of the waves even when the temperatures dip at the fun Leisure Pool at The Riviera International Centre in Torquay. Or book in to see a show at the Princess Theatre in Torquay. Hosting performances from international ballet companies to some of the UK’s top comedians, there’s also a traditional family pantomime here every year that’s sure to raise a smile.
Christmas in Torquay
A vibrant shopping centre and plenty of festivals, events and happenings right through the festive season makes Torquay a glittering Christmas destination. Explore high street favourites and independent shops selling everything from designer dresses to fluffy socks and tick another to do off your Christmas shopping list. Or find someone special something unique at one of the boutique craft and gift shops in Babbacombe or Brixham.
For younger members of the family, book a visit to see Father Christmas that they will remember forever. Every year the Dartmouth Steam Railway transforms itself into the Santa Express. Departing from Paignton on dates throughout December, this magical trip includes gifts for the kids and mulled wine and mince pies for the adults.
