About
Our rooms have all you'd expect of a high quality Bed and Breakfast - flat screen TV, wifi, clock radio, hair dryer, beverages, toiletries, etc. They're individually colour co-ordinated and all with en suite. Breakfast can be added for a supplement.
All of our bedrooms are furnished and equipped to the highest standards for your comfort and convenience. Claire and Steve enjoy making the hotel as friendly as is possible.
We’re ideally located for touring South Devon, either by car or by bus or train, and there are many walking opportunities too. There are many attractions in the area too numerous to mention them all, but just around the corner is the Dartmouth Steam Railway Station (right next door to the mainline Railway), Paignton Zoo is within walking distance, although we do try to discourage our guests from walking there, as the site is huge, and involves a lot of leg work. It's a short drive with lots of free parking, or the No.12 bus takes you there on it's every 10 minute service.
We do have Oldway Mansion within a 20 minute stroll of The Clifton at Paignton - this was the home of Isaac Singer of Singer Sewing Machine fame. This is a magnificent building modelled by Paris Singer - Isaac's son, on the Palace of Versailles.
Babbacombe - an area of Torquay easily accessed by bus, has the wonderful Model Village - a magical place, that's constantly being refreshed and topical. A gardeners delight as it's set in a disused quarry, and has little roads lined with bonsai trees, and tiny lawns on some of the properties.
Just around the corner from the Model Village is Bygones, set in an old cinema, with a wonderful Victorian street and shops on the entry level.and lots more treasures of bye gone ages. Just along the road from there is the beautiful Tessier Gardens, a very well kept secret, and then coming back past Bygones, and a little further takes you to the cliff top, known as Babbacombe Downs - with a magnificent view of Oddicombe Beach. This beach can be accessed by the Cliff Railway - one of the best value rides in the Bay - again run by volunteers. Plenty of refreshment opportunities at all of these places.

Road Directions
Directions to The Clifton at Paignton. 9-10 Kernou Road, Paignton TQ4 6BA 01803 556545 Leave the M5 following Torquay signs (beautiful scenery at this point). and keep on the dual carriageway to Paignton. Turn left at the second roundabout - to Preston (Preston is not on the big green sign, but on the small white one after it). Follow the road down to the traffic lights at the junction – beautiful view of the bay as you descend. Go straight over into Seaway Road. Follow that road under the railway bridge, bearing right. The sea is now on your LHS behind a wide expanse of grass and beach huts. Keep going until you see the VUE Cinemas looming, and Kernou Road is on the RHS just before the pedestrian crossing – between the Spinning Wheel and another pub called Hyde Dendy. We’re on the LHS down there.
