About
Welcome to the Smuggler’s Haunt Bed and Breakfast Hotel. This history-rich building comprises of fourteen guest bedrooms over three stories, and is situated in the heart of the idyllic fishing town of Brixham, and just a stone’s throw away from the harbour. Brixham and surrounding Torbay (The English Riviera) offer a plethora of attractions, places of interest and natural beauty to appeal to all people of all ages.
Dating back to the 17th century, the Smuggler’s Haunt was originally two cottages, and was the residence of notorious Devonshire smuggler Bob Elliot in 1851. Following a large find of tobacco, he escaped Revenue men by being placed in a large coffin built in the carpenter shop, which is now the hotel’s reception area.
Under recent new ownership, the hotel has undergone extensive transformations to breathe new life into this remarkable building. Breakfast is held in our beautiful spacious nautically decorated restaurant, which in the near future will be available to book for evening meals. A newly furnished cosy lounge is also now available for residents to enjoy and relax.
All of our staff in this family run business will extend a truly warm welcome and will actively promote a friendly and relaxed atmosphere during your stay with us. This however does not diminish our total commitment to offering you high quality accommodation and excellent customer care.
The rooms we offer range from single, twin, double and superior. All include en-suite bathrooms with shower, enjoy flat screen TVs and tea and coffee making facilities, wardrobe/closet, (wifi).
Our superior rooms are more spacious than the others, and typically include a seating area. One of our priorities throughout our renovations and improvements of the hotel is to bring every room to superior standard in regard to quality, comfort, design and convenience.
