If there’s one thing that really makes a holiday special, it’s discovering a really good pub or bar! A good pub or bar is at the heart of a great British holiday. Fortunately, in Devon we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to top quality pubs and bars, many with stunning sea and harbour views. Many of the English Riviera pubs and bars are family and dog friendly too, have restaurants, beer gardens and provide regular live music.
So whether you’re looking for a proper ‘olde worlde’ traditional independent pub such as the Queens Arms in Brixham or a buzzing bar like Soho that’s a non-stop party into the small hours, across Torbay, Torquay, Babbacombe, Paignton and Brixham there are over 100 pubs and bars to choose from!
Best Beer, Wine and Cider in the South West!
For the perfect pint head to Torbay where our local brewery, Bays Brewery provides a fantastic choice of award winning craft local ales including Devon Dumpling, Top Sale and Bays Gold, complemented by a very popular Devon Rock Craft Lager.
The full taste of Devon is also on offer accompanied by a choice of local wines, with Sharpham Vineyard near Totnes our local vineyard running tasting tours and vineyard walks operate from March to December. Hunts produce some great local handcrafted Devon cider and have gained a gold award from Food and Drink Devon for their delicious drinks.
Glamorous Cocktail Bars
The English Riviera is home to several glamorous Cocktail Bars including Cru Beach Bar at Abbey Sands on Torquay seafront. Here you can watch some of the country’s top mixologists at work whilst relaxing on the outdoor terrace overlooking the sea!
Some of our popular pubs
The Drum Inn in the heart of Cockington Village is an attractive thatched building and the ultimate traditional British watering hole. This is one for the whole family, offering plenty of affordable, hearty food deals and nutritious child-sized meals for the little ones.
The historic Grade I-listed Churston Court, just a mile from Brixham, was once a favourite of Agatha Christie, the world’s most famous crime writer born in Torquay. Stop for a quiet drink at this quirky establishment where suits of armour stand alongside tapestries, and sample their good selection of fine wines.
At Babbacombe Beach you’ll find The Cary Arms, voted Best Dining Pub in the Taste of the West Awards and offering an amazing waterfront location. The recently refurbished award winning Green Ginger Pub and Bar in Torquay operated by Weatherspoon’s is one of Torquay’s favourite pubs.
Dog friendly
Many Torbay pubs and bars are dog friendly, so there’s no reason why your four-legged friend shouldn’t enjoy a few days away on the English Riviera too.
