About
East of Torquay lies Babbacombe Beach. A beautiful arc of shingle beach, this unspoilt coastline is a haven of tranquillity, gorgeous views and calm, clean waters where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere. While you’re here don’t forget to take a gentle stroll along the Downs, whose claim to fame is that it’s the highest promenade in England. If you’re a keen angler or if you simply fancy having a go, head to the breakwater and see what you can reel in. Alternatively, why not try your hand at sailing? The sheltered beach makes it the ideal place to learn. Babbacombe Beach is also a renowned scuba diving site – perfect for beginners and more seasoned divers.
Picture Perfect
The hillside behind Babbacombe Beach is thick with woodland and if you have the energy, walk up the steep slope to Babbacombe Downs and Gardens. Or save your legs and take the Babbacombe Cliff Railway. Built in 1926, this is the quick way up the cliffs and means you won’t get out of breath! Once you reach the top you’ll find yourself 300ft above sea level and the views across the bay are breathtaking.
If you feel inspired by the views, don’t miss the chance to explore the South West Coastal Path, the longest coastal path in the UK. From Babbacombe Beach, take the path towards Torquay past Hope’s Nose, which promises stunning vistas and incredible scenery.
For a holiday you can enjoy whatever the time of year, visit the English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay.
