Vue Cinema, Paignton
You’ll find a huge choice of movies to watch at the state-of-the-art Vue Cinema complex on the Esplanade in Paignton with a great choice of the latest film releases all year round. The latest Murder on the Orient Express movie with all-stars Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench & Johnny Depp was launched at a gala screening to celebrate Agatha Christie’s lifelong connections with the English Riviera.
Vue Torbay has no less than nine screens with around 1638 seats. All screens are fitted with Digital Dolby 6.1 Surround Sound and five of the screens are equipped with Digital 3D. Vue Torbay is located on street level, on Esplanade Road right in the heart of Paignton. It is around a five-minute walk from the main bus station. Parking for blue badge holders is available right outside. All other parking on meters is available on the seafront and surrounding residential areas. There's also a multi-storey car park less than 10 minutes walk away. There is wheelchair access throughout Vue Torbay. Audio description is available on a selection of the films and hearing assistance is via a headset or neck loop. There are monthly autism-friendly screenings.
Torre Abbey Open-Air Cinema
Stunning 800-year old Torre Abbey, located on Torquay seafront offers seasonal open-air cinema in the grounds amongst the ancient ruins. Recent classics shown have included Jaws and Dirty Dancing or more modern day films such as La La Land and the Lion King – it’s a stunning experience out the in the open under the stars.
Famous Film Locations to Visit
Nearby Dartmoor is the world-famous location of Stephen Spielberg’s hit movie War Horse. Michael Morpurgo, the Devon-based author of the original novel, created this evocative tale after meeting war veterans at his local pub in Iddesleigh, mentioned in the film when Albert shouts, “Race you to the Duke of York!” A visit to the brooding, mysterious and craggy hills and tors of Dartmoor makes a superb day out from Devon’s beautiful English Riviera – it’s only 45 minutes away.
