Regattas and Maritime Events
Torquay's bustling seafront and harbour quarter hosts a large number of maritime events, which add colour and an international atmosphere to the heart of the English Riviera. From sailing and rowing events, to powerboat racing and even jet ski and water-ski competitions, there's always something exciting happening on our harbours and out in the Bay.
Soak up the English Riviera atmosphere by taking a stroll through these delightful gardens, overlooking the stunning boats on our international marina. Look out for regular craft and continental food markets or just chillout on the grass and admire the stunning flowerbeds and fountain.
Attractions and Distractions
Torre Abbey Museum doesn't only host some of the best art exhibitions in the south west, but a fantastic programme of amazing events as well. Look out for arts and music festivals, open-air theatre, stand-up comedy nights, Christmas markets and the brilliant open-air cinema festival (every August). The nearby Riviera International Centre hosts an equally exciting programme of events, from roller discos to a Prosecco Festival and the best Halloween party in town. Torquay Museum and Kents Cavern are both exciting venues hosting unique events and on a regular basis.
Torre Abbey Meadows
This fantastic park, over-looking Torquay's main beach, is another great place to stumble upon exciting events. Don't miss the annual Rotary Pedal Car Grand Prix every July, which has been offering thrills and spills for 40 years. The circus also comes to town in the second half of July, offering big top fun for all the family, while the Anderton and Rowland Funfair takes over the whole of the meadows during the summer holidays.
Sporting Events and Competitions
An incredible diversity of big sporting events take place in Torquay every year, from the English Riviera Bowls Tournament, to the Torbay Half Marathon and Torquay United fixtures.
Carnivals and Fireworks
During the summer months, there seem to be fireworks displays on an almost nightly basis, often part of people's wedding celebrations. However, keep an eye out for the big one on Corbyn Head towards the end of August. If you are visiting the Bay in the lead-up to Christmas, don't miss the Christmas lights switch-on. We've even heard a rumour you might spot Santa in his grotto.
New events are added all the time, so please keep an eye on our main events page for the latest updates.
