About

THIS EVENT IS PART OF THE AGATHA CHRISTIE FRINGE FESTIVAL

While staying at her holiday home at Greenway, Agatha Christie worshipped at the ancient church of St Mary the Virgin, Churston Ferrers. In her autobiography, she noted ‘It is a beautiful little church and the plain glass east window always gaped at me like a gap in teeth. I looked at it every Sunday and used to think how lovely it would look in pale colours’.

Agatha resolved to remedy the situation with the donation of a stained-glass window, but, in true Christie fashion, the tale would prove full of twists and turns…

In this unique event organised by the Devonshire Association, Dr Sue Andrew will relate the tale, which sheds light on both Agatha’s character and the artistry of the window’s designer, James (Jim) Paterson of Bideford.

We will also be joined by Sandy Howard, a volunteer at Greenway. She will talk about Agatha’s time while staying at the property and how it inspired her works. Sandy will also touch on the activities the family enjoyed in the local area, from gardening to picnics and her links to the church itself.

Refreshments will be provided.
