About
The Palms is a delightful Edwardian guest house in a leafy district of Torquay with excellent access to local amenities, award-winning beaches and top visitor attractions.
Most of our bedrooms, the guest lounge area and the outdoor terrace provide charming woodland views of Torwood Gardens. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with a shower, tea and coffee making facilities, a telephone, hairdryer, ironing board, and a 19-inch flat-screen TV. We have a luggage storage area for guests to use on their arrival, during their stay and on departure. We have a range of single, twin and double rooms available, plus some of the rooms have four poster beds as an extra treat for that special break. We also have special provisions for lone female travellers to ensure you are safe during your stay.
A delicious and hearty Devon platter breakfast or choice from the cold breakfast table awaits you with vegetarian and special diet menu options available. We also provide room service and offer a bar menu served as an evening meal option
We accept guests with pets, organised by prior arrangement and welcome solo visitors, couples and families with infants or children. We have a games room with plenty of toys, selection of family-friendly DVD’s, a play station 2 and an X Box to use for extra entertainment during the stay. Our guests can use the garden and patio to enjoy the Mediterranean-style climate and sunny aspect.
For guests arriving by car, motorbike or bicycle there is some free onsite parking. There is also ample street parking, some charges apply, and the all year-round pay-on-exit long stay Harbour Car Park within a 2-minute walk.
Getting around couldn’t be easier with buses, taxis and trains readily available and accessible to wheelchair users. To assist your journey plans to the English Riviera, The Palms can be easily accessed from Torquay Railway Station (2.3 miles), Torre Railway Station (2 miles) and Lymington Road Coach Station (1.7 miles).
We are ideally located, just a short 5-minute walk to The Strand and Torquay harbourside for leisurely shopping, lively bars and nightclubs, amusement arcades and easy access to frequent bus services to the neighbouring towns of Paignton and Brixham. The town centre (1.8 miles) with a selection of high street shops, famous brand fast food restaurants and takeaways, Gala Bingo (0.9 miles) is within each reach. Also situated on Babbacombe Road is Torquay Museum, a family-friendly attraction and an English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark Key Site with blockbuster seasonal exhibitions, fascinating galleries about local archaeology, geology and famous people including Agatha Christie and explorer, Percy Fawcett. The museum houses North-West Europe’s oldest human fossil and a 2,500-year-old mummified Egyptian boy.
Take a ride on the Torquay Land Train, for a 45-minute sightseeing journey around the town. The train weaves its way around the picturesque seafront, historic Torre Abbey Museum (1.6 miles) and scenic Torre Abbey Gardens with adventure golf, bowling greens and tennis courts. There are convenient drop off points along the route including Belgrave Road (1.1 miles) for independent cafes and an art gallery as well as Fleet Street (0.6 miles) for designer shopping. English Riviera Sightseeing Tours offers an open-top bus sightseeing experience, taking in the splendid sights between Torquay and Paignton including the Green Flag award-winning Babbacombe Downs and popular Meadfoot Beach. There are two daily tours with stunning views and tour guides providing live commentary.
The Palms’ central location makes this the perfect base to enjoy a break on the English Riviera whatever the time of year. Our staff are fluent in other languages including Japanese and we make it our priority to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay.
A warm welcome awaits you.
