Wild Swimming - 4
A natural antidote to the pressures of modern-day living, the popularity of outdoor swimming has boomed with many keen to enjoy both the physical and mental health benefits. Ask our local swimmers and they’ll tell you it’s a challenge, a joy and a true ‘living in the moment’ experience. The English Riviera has many Blue Flag awarded beaches, reflecting the high standard of beach management and quality bathing water. The sea is warmest June- October, ranging from 11 – 18oc but many swim all year round. Favourites places are Anstey’s Cove, Torre Abbey Sands and Meadfoot Beach. Connect with local swimmers by searching Devon and Cornwall Wild Swimming on Facebook.
There are beaches, hidden coves, sea-stacks and islands to explore. A full wetsuit or just a cossie, there’s no judging here. Dress appropriately for the time of year and your own ability. It’s a social activity, which often includes the eating of cake and local groups will be happy to have you along.
Here are some highlights on local magazine The Shorely.
