This autumn, England’s Seafood FEAST (29 September – 15 October) returns to the English Riviera, an area rightly renowned as England’s Seafood Coast. The two-week festival offers participants a ‘sea to plate’ experience, with more than 30 venues taking place right across the towns of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. Highlights include everything from fine dining to street food and seafood celebration suppers to guest chef events.
ENJOY FRESH SEAFOOD LANDED IN BRIXHAM
England’s Seafood FEAST is a celebration of the 22 miles of Devon coastline from where the UK’s finest restaurants source their seafood. The picturesque town of Brixham lands a staggering £60 million worth of fish and seafood each year, making it easily the biggest fishing port in the UK by value. All of the venues participating in the FEAST will be offering the chance to discover delicious local delicacies cooked up by expert chefs.
VISIT THE LARGEST FISH MARKET IN THE UK
Brixham is home to the only live fish action in the UK and early risers can book onto a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of Brixham Fish Market, the largest in the UK. Limited to 30 people at a time, you will be able to see the bustling operational side of the market where over 40 species of fish are sold finishing with a waterside seafood breakfast at Rockfish, Brixham. All profits from the tour are donated to the Fisherman’s Mission.
TOMORROW’S FISH ARE STILL IN THE SEA
The species regularly landed at Brixham include gurnard, Dover sole, lemon sole, hake and cuttlefish, as well as lobster, Brixham crab and the celebrated Elberry Cove Mussels. With day fishing boats delivering to both the fish market and direct to local restaurants, you can be sure the fish you enjoy has been caught within the last 24-hours. Indeed, local celebrity chef, Mitch Tonks has a tagline for his Rockfish Brixham restaurant: “tomorrow’s fish are still in the sea.”
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Whilst Brixham sells fish right across the UK, you can be sure that we keep some of the very best right here in the Bay. With this in mind, at England’s Seafood FEAST you will be tasting some of the finest fish out there, whether that’s fine dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant like Simon Hulstone’s The Elephant, a booming café like Ash Hamilton’s The Curious Kitchen or enjoying a portion of fish and chips on the beach.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAMME
The full programme of events for this year’s England’s Seafood FEAST will be announced shortly, with a huge variety of events taking place right across the Bay. Amongst the many highlights are the return of The Seven Chef’s from England's Seafood Coast events in both Torquay and Brixham, where you can dine in seven restaurants over seven hours enjoying seven seafood courses and locally paired drinks.
