About
The Sandridge Barton Estate is located on the east bank of the River Dart, just south of Stoke Gabriel.
It’s a very special place with a gorgeous landscape spreading across 450 acres, and an extensive history that has been enhanced over the years, most recently with our new vineyard and winery as well as entry into a higher tier Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
Sandridge Barton vineyard was first planted in 2008 and has 32 acres under vine. We grow various varieties including Madeleine Angevine, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Bacchus Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.
With breath-taking views across the river and beyond, the site lies in a south-facing bowl that gently slopes towards the Dart, benefitting from the warming influence of the tidal river as well as the Devon sunshine.
Sandridge Barton offer many different types of tasting experiences, from casual self-guided wine tastings for those who want to taste the range of wines at their own leisure, to in-depth guided tastings and tours for those wishing to learn more about the vineyard and wine-making processes. Booking is strongly advised as slots do fill up fast. Also on-site is the restaurant Circa, who serve local, seasonal and ethical dishes showcasing the best Devon has to offer, set in an old stone milking-parlour in a sun-filled courtyard. Our whole site is dog friendly, from wine tastings to restaurant.
Our new Vineyard Safari tour is now live to book!
Our Vineyard Safari offers a full insight into how we produce our award-winning wines, starting in the vineyard and going all the way through to the winery.
On arrival, you'll check-in and meet your guide at our visitor centre before boarding our trailer to head 500m up the road to our main Sandridge Barton vineyard. Here we'll pour your first two wines amongst the vines, and explain the unique location of our vineyard. We will then explain the life cycle of the vine, and discuss what phase of this cycle we are currently in.
We'll then board the trailer once more and head back to the winery where we'll explain the winemaking processes and equipment involved in this. Whilst doing this, we will taste two more wines.
Finally, we'll head to our 'Vine Room' where we will taste one final wine along with some local cheese and charcuterie.
