About
The Indigos Play & Ecology Centre will be offering lots of different play activities over the summer holidays with outdoor fun and adventurous play sessions for all children. There will be ball games, football, skittles, Jenga, water play and free play, building dens, clay work, junk modelling, Lego and bush craft skills.
This year Play Torbay will celebrate it’s 25th birthday and has also become an Associate Member of the Torbay Global Geopark. We would like to celebrate this and working with willow artists Weird Sticks develop the site so that there is a special entrance gateway to the higher woodland area which would be created from willow and hazel using different colours to represent the geological layers and the rock formation of Torbay. Within that there would be chance for children to develop and create special crevices where their own little willow and clay animals can live for the next 25 years!
Inquisitive About Indigos
As an associate Partner of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geoparks Play Torbay were thrilled to be one of the successful heritage funded projects this year. Our intention is to involve children and families in the local heritage of Torbay through playful activities at the Indigos Play & Ecology Centre in Brixham
Over the summer we will be running eight Indigos Geo Nature Play workshop sessions offering opportunities for children and young people and their parents to help contribute to the Geo Park Gateway using different colour willow and hazel to represent the geological layers and the rock formations of Torbay. With the support of the Torbay Lottery Heritage Fund, Hannah and Vik from Weird Sticks the children and young people will be creating little creatures that lived in the different time periods of Torbay’s development. The creatures will be incorporated into the new willow gateway.
Alongside this we have been working with Emberlense Film Company who are helping us to create a short film to represent the importance of play and spaces to play and children’s dreams for the future. This will be available on our website shortly in September 2024. www.playtorbay.org.uk
