Take a break on the English Riviera and you’ll be spoiled for choice for things to do and places to go with your holiday hound.
Many of our B&B providers and guest house owners offer affordable, all year-round pet-friendly accommodation and will go that extra doggy mile to offer a warm welcome to guests and their faithful companions. Take a look at our suggestions of some dog friendly places in Torquay to stay:
The Robin Hill Hotel
This four-star accommodation is full of Victorian charm and was once a gentleman’s residence. Located only a short walk away from the picturesque harbourside and bustling town centre, there are lots of dog-friendly restaurants, bars and attractions close by. The Robin Hill accepts small dogs in selected guest rooms and there is a good-sized park across the road for some exercise and play time. Your dog must be kept with you at all times, excluding meal times and the owners have a no-cat policy to avoid any foul play. There’s ample free parking available onsite as well as on some of the adjacent streets so there’s no need to worry about travelling light.
The Downs, Babbacombe Downs
Situated on the clifftop and overlooking the delightful Babbacombe Downs, this B&B has unrivalled sea views of the coastline towards Teignmouth and beyond to Lyme Bay and Portland Bill. The Downs is a dog friendly venue with a number of allocated rooms available for pets and their owners, with water bowls, towels and cold storage for fresh pet food supplied if required.
Babbacombe has lots to offer with charming tearooms, pubs, takeaways and restaurants serving excellent quality Devon produce within easy walking distance. A stay on the English Riviera has to include a ride on the famous Babbacombe Cliff Railway which allows dogs on leads to jump aboard for a roll around in the sand at Babbacombe beach, an all year-round dog-friendly spot.
The Charterhouse
The Charterhouse is a beautiful Edwardian building which has retained much of its original charm. It is surrounded by tranquil sub-tropical gardens in a quiet, leafy country lane, close to Cockington Village and Country Park, a popular destination for local dog walkers. Small house-trained dogs are accepted by prior arrangement and can stay in the guest garden rooms. They are not allowed in the main part of the building, and there is a minimal charge per night, a small price to pay to have your best friend by your side.
Ashleigh House
Ashleigh House is an ideal location to explore the great outdoors with your furry companion. It is a small, family run, friendly guest house set within a beautiful Victorian villa with an enormous amount of character and charm, creating a relaxing atmosphere whilst away from home. Ashleigh House is a short walk from Torquay harbourside and the cosmopolitan marina with its vast promenade, the perfect setting for an early evening dog walk as well as Meadfoot Beach: North Eastern part, accessible to dogs all year-round. Ashleigh House has a small well-tendered garden and a pet-friendly policy with a single charge applied for staying dogs.
