In January 2021, 95% of businesses were closed during as a result of COVID-19, 2% were closed for part of the month and just 3% had remained open. Those businesses still open to some degree were operating at -62% turnover levels compared to January 2020.
Compared to the whole of 2019 it is estimated that approximately £232 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost on the English Riviera during 2020 due to COVID-19, 55% of the total anticipated turnover for the year. Download the report here.
In February 2021, 96% of businesses were closed during as a result of COVID-19, 3% were closed for part of the month and just 1% had remained open. Those businesses still open to some degree were operating at -50% turnover levels compared to February 2020.
Compared to the whole of 2019 it is estimated that approximately £232 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost on the English Riviera during 2020 due to COVID-19, 55% of the total anticipated turnover for the year. An additional £46.5 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost to the end of February 2021 resulting in a total loss to date for on the English Riviera (including 2020) of approximately £278.5 million. In March 2021, 91% of businesses were closed during as a result of COVID-19, 7% were closed for part of the month and just 2% had remained open. Those businesses still open to some degree were operating at -63% turnover levels compared to March 2019. Please note that a comparison with March 2019 was used as it was not affected by the impacts of Covid-19 (unlike March 2020).
It is estimated that approximately £232 million of anticipated tourism business turnover was lost on the English Riviera during 2020 due to COVID-19, 55% of the total anticipated turnover for the year. An additional £70.9 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost to the end of March 2021 resulting in a total loss to date on the English Riviera (including 2020) of approximately £302.9 million. In April 2021, 73% of businesses were closed as a result of COVID-19, 18% were closed for part of the month and 10% had remained open. Those businesses still open to some degree were operating at -52% turnover levels compared to April 2019.
It is estimated that approximately £232 million of anticipated tourism business turnover was lost on the English Riviera during 2020 due to COVID-19, 55% of the total anticipated turnover for the year. An additional £101 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost to the end of April 2021 resulting in a total loss to date on the English Riviera (including 2020) of approximately £333 million. In May 2021, 69% of businesses said their business had been closed for part of May as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, 21% were open for the whole month whilst 10% said their business was closed for the whole of May. Those businesses still open to some degree were operating at -40% turnover levels compared to May 2019.
It is estimated that approximately £232 million of anticipated tourism business turnover was lost on the English Riviera during 2020 due to COVID-19, 55% of the total anticipated turnover for the year. An additional £119 million of anticipated tourism business turnover has been lost to the end of May 2021 resulting in a total loss to date on the English Riviera (including 2020) of approximately £351 million. 82% of businesses said their business had been open for the whole of June whilst 7% said they had been closed for part of the month and 11% for the whole month as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those businesses open to some degree were operating at +6% turnover levels compared to June 2019. (Please note that a comparison with June 2019 was used as it was not affected by the impacts of Covid-19 unlike June 2020). Download the report here.

Those businesses open to some degree were operating at +15% turnover levels compared to August 2019 (Please note that a comparison with August 2019 was used as it was not affected by the impacts of Covid-19 unlike August 2020).
